5.0 out of 5 stars Very readable by anyone.

A really gripping and typically exciting story. Fascinating characters and a strong protagonist leading you through the story. An interesting writing style, and a very soft porn feel to the whole atmosphere but not unpleasant. Set in inner London, you will never look at your Korean TV the same way again. Strong female leads which is good to see, with the usual cheeky P.I. Daniel Beckett protagonist leading you through the story as he picked up the clues.
A very exciting damsel in distress story with a little bit of extreme violence thrown in. But enough of that. Very readable. Very modern.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting, sensual, fast paced, action thriller

'Acid Yellow' was the first book by Dominic Piper that I've read and I know it won't be the last. I'm eager to try other books of his after reading this one. In this one, Kiaraa Jeong is a famous classical pianist but she is kidnapped and brutally murdered. After trying hard to get justice for her for two years , her sister Micha, a corporate honcho, approaches Daniel Beckett.

Now Daniel takes some getting used to. He has a easy, laidback style of working, is unflappable, humorous in every situation and is a big flirt. No woman escapes his eye but he does not allow his flirtations to divert him from relentlessly trying to pursue Kiaraa's killers who have left a cold path after two years with almost no clues to follow.

Dominic Piper's writing is engaging, there is great attention to details. He seems to be an aficionado of perfumes and his character Daniel can identify the perfumes that all characters wear, man or woman- I found that quirk cute.

Dominic's writing brought Kiaraa Jeong to life as Daniel Beckett learns more about her as he investigates the case and interacts with people in her life who loved her or hated her. Her personality is acid yellow and the author uses broad brushstrokes to describe a woman when he could have left us merely with a caricature of a dead woman. A who once lived life so brightly and effervescently that we are left dazzled by her presence throughout the book.

The plot is dynamic and moves along at a pace that is relentless relieved only by Daniel's endless escapades with women. Dominic's writing is suspenseful and action packed and will leave you wanting to find out what happens next as Daniel's tenacity unravels clues one by one. A must read this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Tremendous Five Star Read.

This is the fifth novel in the series featuring private investigator Daniel Beckett, and like the other novels, it doesn’t disappoint. I raced through this! The writing is stylish, witty, smart and charming; the characters well fleshed-out, complex and believable. Add to this an intriguing and clever plot that keeps you turning the pages and you’re left with a magnificent contemporary detective thriller that you’ll want to read again and again. An amazing and sensational read, and a definite five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!

The fifth in the Daniel Beckett series of detective thrillers is another exciting, sexy, and trailblazing treat. And timely, too, with its convincing portrayals of the violence/aggressions that women must put up with every day of their lives, some big, some small, particularly in big cities like London, where this novel is set.
I suppose this is a cold case story, though it’s unlike others in that genre that I’ve read (no surprise there, considering the startling innovations in the other books in this series). Beckett is hired to track down the murderer/s of a famous Korean classical pianist two years after the event, a case that everyone else seems to have given up on.
What makes this book so enjoyable is that the reader is as much in the dark as Beckett is, as he slowly connects the pieces of the jigsaw. Like the other books, it’s filled with sparkling, witty dialogue, repellent/freaky bad guys and sexy strong/independent women, plus an intriguing look into many aspects of modern South Korean culture.
The other thing that strikes me with this book is how utterly contemporary it is. Texts, emails, Zoom and iPhone calls constantly and simultaneously zinging in from all directions, enabling Beckett to communicate/flirt with multiple contacts while dealing in person with others, and Piper’s skill with dialogue making each type of communication come alive and seem genuine and convincing (the mutual text teasing between Beckett and his client’s PA throughout the book is an absolute delight). And envelope pushing? Phew! I won’t give the game away. You’ll know it when you get to THAT CHAPTER! Fantastic.

Engrossing thriller! Great characters with a balance of fallibility and humour. The plot moves at a pace in surprising directions. I thoroughly enjoyed being in this world with the amazing Daniel Beckett. He loves and respects his female characters making them well rounded and interesting. A five star read
